MISS RODEO NEBRASKA CLINIC ANNOUNCED

Rodeo queen hopefuls will have the chance to learn from former royalty and

a professional horse trainer during the 2015 Miss Rodeo Nebraska Clinic.

Mid-Plains Community College, a partner of the Miss Rodeo Nebraska Pageant,

will host the event in North Platte.

The clinic will be split this year. The first half, March 13-14, will feature Miss Rodeo Nebraska 2014 Gina Jespersen and Miss Rodeo Kansas 2014 Katera Harter.

Both placed in the Top 10 during the Miss Rodeo America Pageant in December. The women will share some of the tips and techniques they acquired during their many years competing.

Session topics will include: modeling, marketing, life coaching, public speaking, clothing design, scoring procedures, interviewing, rodeo events, rodeo and horsemanship knowledge and photogenics.

A mercantile will be set up for clinic participants to buy and sell clothing, hats, boots and accessories. Other activities will include an ice cream social and a mock pageant. The pageant will be free and open to the public from 7-9 p.m. March 14 at the McDonald-Belton Theater on the south campus of North Platte Community College.

The second half of the clinic is scheduled for April 18, and participants must take horses to it. The featured presenter will be Gary Campbell, of Colorado, who is a horse trainer, clinician and former American Quarter Horse Association judge.

The queen clinic is open to contestant hopefuls ages 9-26, coaches, parents and pageant directors. The cost varies. More information, including registration forms and a detailed schedule are available on the missrodeonebraska.org website or by calling Lolly Klug at (308) 582-4523.

Registrations must be postmarked by March 9 to avoid a $25 late fee.

There will also be a Lil’ Cowgirl Clinic in conjunction with the queen clinic. Open to girls ages 6-11, it will take place March 15 on NPCC’s south campus.

Participants will learn a dance routine, enjoy a craft session, learn about self-confidence, write a letter to a rodeo queen and have a photo taken with Miss Rodeo Nebraska and Miss Teen Rodeo Nebraska. The Lil’ Cowgirls will also be involved with several MRN Pageant and Nebraskaland Days events.

The cost of the Lil’ Cowgirls clinic is $45, which includes a snack, a t-shirt and tickets to the events where the children will perform.

The registration deadline is Feb. 26. Reservations can be made by calling Jayme Smith at (308) 520-3388 or Peggy Moorhead at (309) 368-5237.
